While previously, Ubuntu has only been supported for 18 months
(that is, you can get updates for it for 18 months), The new version
coming out in a few months will be supported for 3 years at the desktop
level and 5 years at the server level.  Supported for 5 years ought to
be long enough for what he wants.

In addition, upgrading from the current version (Breezy) to the version
that will be supported for 5 years will be MUCH, MUCH, MUCH easier
using Ubuntu than it would be under any type of Red Hat based system
(which CentOS is).
