[TriLUG] Sound Card Weirdness

Howdy all,

    I just set up sound on my Gentoo system for my nVidia based PCI 
sound card.  I can hear sound, but there's a lot of noise and the little 
speaker icon in Gnome is flashing between mute and unmute at about 2 - 4 
Hz or so (and the noise I hear corresponds to this frequency).  Anybody 
seen something like this before?
