You know, I used to have this problem ALL the time in the winter when
I lived in New York/New England, but haven't really noticed it in the
22 years I've lived in NC.

Up north I used to habitually walk around with my car key in one hand,
which I'd use to ground myself against elevators, metal clothes racks
in department stores, ..., ..., ...
