[TriLUG] seeking mysql on debian on amd64 wisdom

It's kind of funny that I am still on this LUG list. I was looking to move
down to the area last year, but wasn't able to find a suitable job, so now I
am out in San Francisco at a startup. I find this LUG to be very active and
knowledgeable, so I have remained on the list.

We are having a heck of a time trying to get mysql running well.
My new company's OS of choice is debian, and we were running fine on sarge
32bit.
We then got some money and bought a amd64 dual core box.

First we tried sarge 32bit, and had problems. Then we tried 64 bit, which
was a little better, but not great.
Other than dropping debian and looking at another OS, I'm not sure what else
to try.

If anyone out there is running mysql happily on similar hardware, I'd love
to hear about your config.

Thanks!

Dan
