[TriLUG] Recording desktop/screen session

Does anyone know of any good software that can record the rendering of
the screen to a video. I tried the program 'Istanbul' under Ubuntu,
but it didn't do well at all. it would crash if I ask it to encode
after I was finished and it would only get a few frames if I let it
encode as it went.

I would really like something that would record on a per-window basis
if it exists. I'm looking to capture the contents of my web browser as
a interact with an application. I'll settle for just being able to
record the entire desktop.
