Compiling from source isn't that difficult, actually. Most of the time
its...

./configure
./make 
./make install
./install

...but yeah, if you don't have the lib's ...that's the part that becomes
a gradual pita.

That would be more effort than I want to put towards
this... :-)   I'm not very good at compiling from
source and I'd still have to find all the libraries and such.
