[TriLUG] Sorta OT: UTF-8, Windows, and PuTTY

Okay, here at work, we're trying to get our software to be UTF-8ified.
The majority of our developers are using Dapper, and are having no
problems using gnome term + ssh to our development server to edit
UTF-8 code, however, a developer using windows is having trouble
decoding UTF-8 characters, both in regular apps and in PuTTY.

Basically, at first, it showed up as binary jibberish. After doing
some PuTTY and Windows reconfiguring, I got it to display those little
boxes for each letter.

It basically seems like non-latin letters are showing up as boxes,
rather than as an int'l character. My first hunch was that it was a
font issue, but I tried using Bitstream Vera Sans Mono, which is the
same font that Dapper uses for gnome-term, and I still had bad luck.

Does anybody have any insight?
