[TriLUG] VM Question Fedora Core 6

I am going to build a lamp server with fedora core 6 server. I am considering creating a virtual server using either VM or Microsofts free products and using Windows 2003 server as the hosting platform. What benefits if any would this provide as opposed to just installing fedora on the server alone?
