well, like I said, you dont have to install X, you dont have to install gnome or kde or 
anything else you dont want. Personally, I dont see what everyones hang-up is with "install 
time". I cant say that Ive installed gentoo on a P75, but yes, it will take quite a while to 
compile your kernel and whatever else you want to install. So I set up a screen session to 
the box, emerge a few packages at once, and go do something else for a few hours. or let it 
run overnight. Sure it might take a weekend to ge a server installed. Its not like I have to 
sit there any watch it compile.. ;) 

in my opinion, the up-front time to install a gentoo system ONCE outweighs 
having to reinstall <your binary distro version here> as they go through their release cycles 
over the years.
