Chillin'

Chapman is a brand new building east of Sitterson, south of Phillips, west
of Carroll and north of Venerable. once there was a parking lot; now there
is Chapman. UNC maps lag construction...

That just goes to the fairly useless interactive map.

Chapman Hall is so new, it's not listed. It doesn't turn up on the "searchable"
map, either.

It's still called "Phillips Hall Addition" on most current maps:

http://www.planroom.unc.edu/gis/Mapbody/?path=detail.asp/q/page=978848

Don't plan on getting to it "across from Venable Hall." Venable is under
demolition and the space between Venable and Chapman is fenced off as well as
the areas around it. The entrance to Chapman from the Venable side is also
fenced off.

Chapman Hall is hard to get to if you don't know where you are going. It's not
on a street. It's behind Phillips Hall, which is on Cameron Avenue. It's also
behind Sitterson Hall, which is on South Columbia in the one way north zone.
Don't park around either of those buildings if you expect to find your car
later.

Parking for Chapman Hall is hard. The instructions mention Hanes Lot, which is
not public. Swain Lot across from Phillips has pay parking, but is mostly now
torn up for construction and is subject to special use permitting without much
notice. I tried to park there last weekend and it was blocked off for
handicapped use only. There were temporary construction zone only signs up this
week. Parking rules change almost daily around campus and weekends are
particularly volatile.

Your best bet will be parking in the municipal lots and garages on Rosemary
Street, particularly the one on the north side of Rosemary. It's the least
expensive of the four municipal options and is less expensive than Swain lot
when there is an attendant at Swain. Some Saturdays, the garage on the north
side of Rosemary has no attendant and can be completely free. Just depends on
"the weather" so to speak. Otherwise it's $6/day, no pass outs.

Once you get to Chapman, it's worth the trip. It's a really nice new building.
However, bring your own drinking water. The fountains in the building are
currently shut off by OWASA due to some as yet unknown contamination problem.
You can wash your hands in the rest rooms, but the water leaves some kind of
gritty film on your hands. You can see small chunks of something that looks
like concrete pebbles in the bottoms of the toilets. We can't find anyone who
will tell us what's wrong or when it might be fixed.
