I think the way they are doing that is by combining multiple 2TB LUN's in some sort of "virtual LUN" hence the prevalence of 14TB (7 x 2TB) arrays.

i have a first generation sata raid card running at a client site that only 
supports arrays up to 2TB due to addressing limitations or something like 
that.  current controllers can go above 2TB with ease, and the OS should be 
able to handle the resulting device with equal ease.
