[TriLUG] Free Linux PC (FLPC)

Well, my thought is that we need to get some of the free content online that would be entertaining and informative. There's tons of it when you start looking. For instance, download the democracy player (www.getdemocracy.com) and do a search for "educational". Most videos are in Flash as are a great many interactive educational programs. One such site I really like is www.starfall.com.

The idea is to provide enough quality software to make the computer engaging and fun. If there are some good open source educational programs (such as Celestia) that would be useful as well. What I'd like to do is compile all of the software in to an interactive CD that would be easy to distribute and navigate by the end user. The target audience is 1st-5th graders. Programming and modeling software would only be interesting to a very select group of the recipients (if any at all) and would likely not be worth giving out to most of the kids in this age group.
