[TriLUG] New ALSA mixer problem

Wondering if anybody's run across this yet-

On my home machine, ALSA loads fine and sound works great, and has done so 
for the past few months since I built the machine.  But now every time I 
try to use the mixer -- e.g., to change volume on any channel -- the sound 
dies and I have to do an /etc/init.d/alsa force-reload to get it back. The 
card is an on-board nVidia system using intel-hda driver.
