Heh.  Actually I was spending quite a lot of time surfing last night 
reading up on bicycle commuting.  It's a bit long to go from north 
Raleigh to RTP but I think I'd like to get a rather utilitarian used 
bike and give it a go.  Though I'm not sure yet what the busing options 
are en route, if any.

Due to some health issues, I was unable to get a drivers license at the 
same time as my peers so I spent quite a lot of my time on a bike.  And 
yes my stamina and lower body strength was pretty intense back then. 
Many years of driving just to sit behind a desk has undone all of that. 
  Pipe smoking hasn't helped.  So I'm sure it's going to be a really 
different experience when I get back on a bike than how I remember it being.
