depends on which local roads
of course, I also grew up riding in upstate NY on roads whose shoulders were
usually only a few inches wide :)
and I'd ride on them during rush hour in and around Albany before I got my
driver license - and I never got in a crash with my bike
the roads around here seem downright tame compared to most of the ones I
rode on as a kid
