[TriLUG] [OT] TriLUGger on the news

I rode my bike around town for a couple years when I was in college. That was pre-boom Charlotte, NC circa 1990. I was hit by a van once and nearly run over by the driver who just kept on truckin (road rash is VERY painful, btw), as well as, threatened with a gun on one occasion and a knife on two separate occasions by (mostly redneck) individuals who didn't want to share the road with some treehugger on a bike.

There is definitely a risk involved, but IF hundreds, and eventually thousands of people began taking that risk every day then society would respond by making room for the treehuggers...and who knows, when (not if) the price of gas gets high enough, those same redneck drivers may just hop on a bike and ride to work themselves.

Wow. I have to fess up here. I was paying closer attention to the road
conditions when I drove home from $WORK today and I have to say, it
would take some huge cajones or maybe outright recklessness to ride a
bike out there on the local roads.
