[TriLUG] Has anyone used SSL-Explorer?

This is an interesting comparison between the two:

How does this differ from other VPN based software, such as OpenVPN?
OpenVPN is a native application and as such requires software to be installed on all client systems that will use it. SSL-Explorer is a web-based application and requires only one installation on a system that will be the server. Client systems only require a Java enabled web browser to access the VPN.

In order to install and use software such as OpenVPN, Windows users must have an administrator account. Furthermore, for Windows, OpenVPN will only operate on Windows 2000 and above whilst SSL-Explorer works with all 32-bit Windows operating systems.

OpenVPN and SSL-Explorer are also conceptually quite different. The former provides a full 'pipe' into your network and in a similar fashion to IPSec this is designed to connect remote users to entire networks. The latter provides a means to securely connect your remote users to a range of application services within the network.

As such, software like OpenVPN is more suited to fixed or point-to-point links into the corporate network whilst SSL-Explorer is more suitable for ad-hoc remote access from a multitude of operating systems and web browsers.

If you're just trying to VNC from home to work or back, you might look
at OpenVPN. It's a very easy-to-configure SSL-based VPN. It handles
the basic routing of your home-to-work network traffic, and nothing
else. After your connection is up, it's a snap to run VNC -- just like
you're there.

OpenVPN can also handle fixed point-to-point connections, like linking
two offices onto a single corporate network.
