Senior Professional Software Engineer

Key Skills – Java, Apache

Principal Duties and Essential Functions:

Install, configure, troubleshoot, upgrade and support web and application
server software environments. Mainly Unix/Linux operating system
environments, with some Windows.

Weeklong 24x7 pager rotation required approximately every 8 weeks.

Provide day to day administration for a multi-tiered Web/Application
Server environment within a large datacenter.

Provide input to project teams on best implementation strategy for
potential customers, as well as provide guidance on the best use of the
environment.
Liaise with other teams to ensure production environment remains
efficient.

Responsible for maintaining and documenting environment changes according
to established change management procedures. Manage and assist in the
deployment of system patches to test, development, staging and production
environments according to established change management procedures.

Manage user and application security in environment.

Development of automation scripts for administration purposes desired but
not required.

Proactively/reactively ensures that the environment is functioning
properly at all times. This includes proactive monitoring and tuning of
environment to address potential performance or capacity issues.

Participate in service restoration teams (SRT) to address complex
environment related issues. Determine the root cause of environment
outages with recommendations for long term corrections.

Work with outside vendors for product installation and system
configuration processes.

Participate in security reviewing, scanning and monitoring of the
production, staging and development environments, including Technical
Vulnerability Assessments.

Basic Qualifications:

BS/BA or equivalent work related experience.


Must have excellent troubleshooting skills, multi-tasking skills, customer
support skills, and ability to  learn new technologies and processes
quickly.

Must be proficient user in Unix, Linux and Windows environments and have
at least 2 years experience administering at least two of the following in
an enterprise environment:  Apache, Tomcat, JBOSS or WebLogic (8.1 or
above).

Any of the following a major plus:
Experience in Business Objects XI,
PeopleSoft/PeopleTools,
Informatica, Documentum 5.3 administration

Strong  skills in Perl or shell-scripting

The following skills will also be considered a plus:
Experience in administration of Lyris ListManger,
Nagios, or Wiki software (especially MediaWiki)

Organizational "Fit" Considerations:
The Candidate must be a team player, be proactive and forthcoming with
potential issues and resolutions, have a very strong customer service
attitude, pay attention to due dates and SLA's (Service Level Agreement),
be able to communicate technical issues clearly in person, on the
telephone and in written documents, approach all tasks with a positive,
can-do attitude, be able to work with problems remotely, follow documented
policies and procedures. Ability to work with little to no direct
supervision.
