Automatix should absolutely be avoided for your own good and for the
sanity of the people online whom you will be asking for help to recover
your machine when Automatix leaves it in a very odd state.

North Carolina has a new Ubuntu users' group to help newcomers learn
their way around Ubuntu and get all set up.  Our mailing list should be
up later this week but in the meantime you can join us on
#ubuntu-northcarolina on Freenode for live chat.  If you pop in there,
you'll find me as "viridari" and a number of other people as well (some
familiar TriLUG faces and others)
