[TriLUG] Accessing in-page javascript variables with Firefox plugin, how?

I'm helping a friend work on a Firefox plugin he's been developing and we've run into a wall. What we need to do is pull the value of a javascript variable into the plugin from a random page. I've spent some time flailing around with google but have unfortunately been unable to find any code examples for this. Anyone know?
