Does anyone know if/when CNR (Click 'N Run) will be available on Ubuntu? I wonder if it will solve some of the pkg mmt issues?

What would be a good alternative to Automatix? I can see the potential issues of using software that doesn't handle apt correctly and can damage a system, but I also wouldn't have heard of certain apps like VirtualBox if I didn't use it.

I dunno. I've used Automatix on 3 machines, and it's done no "damage" at
all. I comment out their repos after installing it, and all of my normal
auto-updates work just fine. This was done ONLY during a fresh install, I
have not tried Automatix after I have tweaked my machines. The ubuntu guide
is still "Unofficial", so reading everything through before typing is key.

Automatix2

*Warning: Automatix2 is a proprietary script that tries to install some
software, and is known to fail and break systems. The Ubuntu community WILL
NOT provide support for it, and we strongly discourage its use. Problems
caused by Automatix are often hard to track and solve, and it may result in
having to reinstall your entire Ubuntu system. Ubuntu/debian developers have
reviewed automatix and found it to be quite dangerous. See the review
here<http://mjg59.livejournal.com/77440.html>
.*

Some users report successful use when installing it right after a fresh
install of Ubuntu, with no Adept or Synaptic package update, or any other
software installed. The apt-get method may be less prone to mishaps, but use
at your own risk.
