I believe this is an unfortunate mindset.  There are laws protecting the
civic duty of citizens of the United States every couple years, as well
as a number of means to accommodate those who cannot appear to register
their opinion in person for some reason.  There are no such laws (or are
there?  I'd love to be corrected) that prevent, for example, an employer
deciding to fire an employee who "accepted responsibility for being a
part of [an] organization" by leaving work to attend an organizational
meeting.  Nor should we so readily expect $MEMBER to forsake [fill in
high-priority life event here] to attend a meeting to vote.

All I'm saying is there are a lot of reasons people don't attend, and
making arrangements, such as allowing a vote by e-mail or some other
form of absentee ballot, shouldn't (in my opinion) be dismissed so
summarily.

This vote will not be done via email.

Somewhere in this process, members need to accept responsibility for
being a part of this organization.  That means coming to a meeting and
standing up for your opinion, either way, by voting in person.
