There is bcwipe(http://www.jetico.com/) and wipe(
http://wipe.sourceforge.net/).  I use bcwipe just because it seems a bit
more polished.  Other than that as you mentioned Darik's Boot and Nuke
("DBAN") - http://dban.sourceforge.net/ does do a great job at wiping entire
systems.
