[TriLUG] SEO Question

So our marketing team outsourced one of my companies microsites.  Now 
Marketing wants to add a blog, which I was going to do for them instead 
of paying the outsourcing company to do.  The outsourcing company made 
the argument that the blog for SEO reasons needs to be at 
http://www.example.com/blog  as opposed to me hosting it at 
http://blog.example.com.  Their argument is that google and the like 
will index it better since it's tied to our www hostname.  I think since 
it's all the same domain name so why should it matter.  Now maybe they 
might get slightly more hits, but is it enough to worry about.
