[TriLUG] OT Humor (at least to me)

I've had mixed success with experienced and not experienced folks (aka
new grads and seasoned professionals). We had a revolving door last
Spring on the sales and marketing side.

On the technical side, I hired an electrical engineering student from NC
State that has been with me for a year and is doing well. I hired
another person several months ago that just got his driver's license and
has not even graduated from high school. He has worked out great.

I have no regrets for also hiring a senior person that has been with me
for a couple of years and used to work for IBM Global Services, NC
Department of Transportation and Martin Marietta. I did not hurt a bit
that he was also a Ranger in special ops with the US Army. That's why
he is VP of Tech Ops today. We are pulling on board one other senior
person next week that is polished and currently handles a 140 employee
account for a local company.

For the senior folks, I don't have to remind them to tuck in their shirt
tails or to execute the next task. There is a difference between a $10
per hour and $60 per hour employee.

Our best folks have come from word of mouth. We have yet to run an
employment ad and celebrate our best month in our ten year history this
month.

I thank God of our new grads and old grads that have made it happen. I'm
always interested in meeting folks that may want to work together
whether new or old. As with customers, I have become pickier with
employees. One bad apple can bring you down.

Regards,

Jim

Just curious if anyone ever hires new grads? With the huge shortage in
IT
workers according to the government maybe new grads are finding jobs?
