[TriLUG] Kubuntu/Ubuntu 7.10 Installation Trouble

Has anyone had any problems with Kubuntu/Ubuntu 7.10?

My laptop runs 7.04 (Fiesty) with no problems.  It also runs the 7.10
live CD's for both Kubuntu and Ubuntu with no problems.

Upon installation of 7.10 from the live CD, my laptop takes *forever*
to boot, gives erratic operation once it has booted, and just
generally doesn't run well. So, I switched back to 7.04, again, with
no problems.

I'm wondering if I'm having trouble because of older video components
in my laptop.  I'm running a 2-year old Dell Inspiron 9200 w/17"
display. (But that doesn't seem THAT old.)  I'm thinking that with the
addition of (Compiz?) in 7.10 that I may not have the proper hardware.
But, then why will it run the live CD's but not install?

Has anyone had any similar experiences? Or any troubleshooting tips?
