VPN (Virtual Private Network) would work nicely here for this task - it
allows your laptop to get a private LAN IP in addition to its normal
public IP when you are outside the private network.
Also, DHCP can be configured to always hand out the same IP addresses to
the machines, effectively giving them static IPs even though they still
have to lease them. I prefer this setup to configuring each machine
statically because the setup is then in one place instead of on lots of
different machines. Easier to see the network setup!
