+1 for M0n0wall.  I've been running it for years on Soekirs 4501 boxes
without a failure of any kind.  Easy to configure, easy to use.. it's
wonderful.  You can run software from a live CD or on specialized hardware
(like the Soekris boxes).

Now might be a good time to look at openbsd and PF, or http://m0n0.ch/wall/.

I probably have a machine that i would be *happy* to get out of my
house for you to use.
