Hi folks. Happy New Year!

Many of you recall the samba PDF printer setups I went through a
couple years ago. Well, it still works great, however, users still
had to add the printer by knowing the printer path:
\\server\printername instead of finding the printer listed in the
Windows Server 2003 Active Directory. Now there is a solution!!

first, the samba PDF printer in case someone wants it:
http://www.turnpike420.net/linux/Samba_PDF_printing.txt

but that requires a persistent samba mount which became annoying so
the instructions were upgraded to use smbclient for non-persistent:
http://www.turnpike420.net/linux/Samba_PDF_printing_nonpersistent.txt

The next step so users could add the printer by the
\\server\printername path was to add the samba server into Computers
of Active Directory:
http://www.turnpike420.net/linux/Samba_add_to_AD.txt

That step is still required to take the next step, publishing the
printer in the Active Directory to allow users to "find in the
directory" and not have to know the printer path:

I know some versions of software have updated since I wrote the
original samba PDF printer how-to, but I'm still using CentOS 4 and it
all still works. I would expect this should provide you with what you
need to make it all work!

enjoy,
David McDowell
