I just installed Ubuntu on a flash drive this week.  I'll want to make a
few tweaks, like mounting /var and /tmp on a ram disk.  But other than
that, I don't see much problem with running from flash.

If you're interested in running from READ-ONLY flash, then you might
want to attend this month's TriLUG meeting.
