If you need less than a full dedicated box (at least to start with), I
really like virtualized hosts like linode.com or slicehost.com. Both
offer lots of bandwidth, choice of OS, and are very easily upgraded.
They aren't local, but Linode does offer the advantage of having
machines in 4 regionally disparate locations around the US to which
you can easily move your nodes.
