>> You could call it a Chicken Dumpling but you would still be wrong. Great comfort food.
>Actually, Texas is below the mason dixon line and we call it Chicken Dumplings.
Actually there is a big difference between "Chicken <optional and> Dumplings" and "Chicken <optional and> Pastry".
They both start out with very similar ingredients, but the process differs in how the dough is prepared. With Pastry, it is rolled into a large, flat sheet, and then cut into strips and layered in the pot. Dumplings are larger blobs where you simply take a handful of dough and 'dump' it into the pot. The result is that dumplings are typically much thicker.
Here are two pictures of the difference:
*** Dumplings:
The author of the attached article refers to the dumplings as 'pillows of dough'.

*** Pastry:

*** Slick:
As far as "Chicken Slick", I have always used Chicken Slick synonymous with Chicken Pastry... but if there is a difference, please let me know.
Btw, I had some great Chicken Slick, or, ummm... Chicken Pastry, over thanksgiving.. served with a large amount of black pepper...
Now while some may consider this off-topic - isn't the discussion of BBQ, pastry, editors, religion, etc much more fun that worrying about pains in the economy?
