One distribution that works out of the box is an Ubuntu derivative called PC/OS, http://www.pc-os.org. It has all the media codecs, flash Java and everything else to help even the novice user make a smooth transition. Case in point, a 73 year old grandfather who has used it for the past year with no issues and no intervention from a tech support specialist. If you have any questions let me know
