On the other hand...
Anther way to capture multiple streams is to use some thing along the
lines of Software Defined Radio. The entire (cable) bandwidth is
captured and then its just a matter of just filtering the data.
This requires high speed A/D and D/A converters and Programmable Gate
Arrays (PGAs). There are a few FOSS projects out there but nothing
mature yet.
Also the FCC is kinda squidgy (that is, uneasy about a new technologies
ramifications) when it comes to such technology and wants to control the
availability of hardware (price it out of the reach of the hobbyist) and
control the firmware.
