This is not going to scale when more of these devices arrive 
in the house in the hands of friends.

I would like the iPod to behave courteously and announce its 
name when it comes on the network, when name resolution and 
all the rest is handled automatically. I don't want to "fix" 
my setup when there's nothing wrong with it, if the problem 
is fixable where the problem is, which at the moment appears 
to be the iPod.
