All of the modules _appear_ to be loading correctly, it is just the
scripts that seem to be missing.

OK. I agree, since manually issuing vgscan and vgchange fixes things.
I certainly don't need to do anything with modules.

As far as I remember ( I don't have it in front of me just at the
moment, but will check ) it reads 'root=/dev/mapper/vg1-root'.
