Yes, you are out of your mind.... :)  First of all, consider 4GB RAM.
Second, consider Linux as the host OS -- you'll be much happier.  Make
the host machine a tiny one, and run a Linux virtual machine and a Win-7
virtual machine.  This decouples the dependancy between machines, and
reduces the interaction if one of them corrupts avoiding corrupting the
other.

How well does VirtualBox handle a Win-7 virtual machine?  That may steer
the discussion toward whether to use a different VM manager.
