Definitely not a Linux post, but probably a general interest to many of those on this list, so I thought I would pass it along. I have been sitting on the fence for a while, and with the latest Durham Techshop specials, I finally had to sign up yesterday!

First, the following specials are available at the store, or on their website:

Introductory membership, 1st mo only $19.95
Introductory membership, 4 mo contract, first mo is free, $99 2nd-4th mo

Plus the regular memberships of:

   Membership, annual $999
   Membership, 6 mo $549
   Membership, 1 mo $99

However, if you see their booth in the commercial building at the NCSU fairgrounds (building closest to the intersection of Hillsborough and Blue Ridge), the following specials are available only at the fair:

   Membership, 1 year $799
   Membership, 1mo + 2 classes $49.99
   Class special, $19.95 /each

The classes allowed by the two above specials are from a select group of 16 classes, but they include the SBU class for the mill, lathe, laser cutting, general metal shop, tig, mig, and stick welding, and a lot of other fun classes. It is this special that was finally enough to push me over, as the cost of the required classes the first 2 months could easily exceed the membership costs.

I signed up for 6 classes (general metal, lathe, mill, laser cutting, +2 defined later), and the 4 mo contract. I only had to pay $119.70 yesterday, and with my membership deferred until Nov1, my first mo payment will not be until Dec 1 (my birthday and Christmas to myself!).

So if you are considering Techshop, you should definitely check out their current specials!

Btw, my 4 classes start the last week of October and finish the first week of November, and I already have the first few projects in mind!
