[TriLUG] External Storage Recommendations

I wanted to poll the group for solutions I haven't thought-of yet.
I need a small capacity external storage solution for making backups of an
ancient embedded Motorola computer system running SVR4. It must have a
SCSI-3 interface (I need it to be a bootable solution) and a capacity of at
least 10Gb. Performance is not critical, I'm just making backups and booting
for a restore if needed. The budget is not unlimited: this isn't a
government contract.
But the storage must also be accessible from Linux running in a VMWare image
on an RHEL host (I don't have root on the host), which translates out to
mean USB accessible.
Seems like I need an external SCSI3 disk with a straight through SCSI cable
and a second USB to SCSI adapter cable, but are there other alternatives I
haven't thought of?
I'm really open to any off-the-wall suggestions. For example, does anyone
know where I can get a SCSI-3 SD card reader which behaves as a completely
transparent disk?
