Topic: The Value of Virtualization
Speaker: David McCarty, Sr. Systems Engineer with Hitachi Data Systems

HDS has been working in the cloud environment for over 10 years now when
it comes to storage. They are doing very fun and exciting things when it
comes to storage and the speakers are going to discuss virtualization,
cloud computing
and the pieces that make manageability much easier.

Speaker's BIO:
David McCarty is a Solutions Consultant based in the Charlotte, North
Carolina Sales office of Hitachi Data Systems. Prior to joining HDS,
David worked 3.5 years as a Technology Consultant for EMC covering the
Mid-Atlantic Area. While at EMC David focused on BuRA
(Backup/Recovery/Archive) solution sets with a keen emphasis on Archive.
David was responsible for presenting and positioning EMC solutions at
all levels of an organization.

Before joining EMC, David worked 5 years for EDS (Electronic Data
Systems) as a Senior Solaris Administrator. He was hired specifically
for his knowledge and expertise with the SUN Enterprise 10000. David was
assigned as the primary technical contact for both the NASD and Nextel
accounts. Responsibilities ranged from shell scripting to managing
backups and performance tuning. David was often the go-to individual for
making recommendations and setting direction for EDS clients in a
Solaris environment.

David started his professional career as a Systems Engineer at PTG
(Piedmont Technology Group), a small consulting company in Charlotte, NC
that has since been bought by Forsythe. David was trained and installed
multiple SGI systems before becoming the Solaris Expert for the company
where he excelled, winning Rookie of the Year Honors.

Often singled out for individual accomplishments and holding multiple
Certifications. David likes to focus on the Team aspect and seeks to
share knowledge amongst his peers. This core belief is something David
learned and developed in the Military.

David joined the Military straight out of High School and served over 10
years of Active Duty as a Combat Engineer in the Army. Still a member of
the Army Reserves, David has held key leadership roles ranging from Demo
Sergeant to Drill Sergeant. David is currently serving as the First
Sergeant for Bravo Company, 3/321st, 98th Division out of Fort Jackson, SC.

David holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and a minor
in Mathematics from Appalachian State University. He lives in Charlotte,
NC with his wife Yong and their two children Nicholas (16) and Jasmine
(14). They enjoy competing in local community running events, especially
5ks and 10ks, and online gaming when not working.
