There are a few ways to tackle Internet load balancing. The "big boy"
method is to run BGP. This is impractical for home users both
technically and economically.  The "poor mans" method is to simply using
routing statements with weighted metrics to divide traffic while
providing fail-over in case of single link failure.  In between there
are software solutions that do things like periodically measuring hop
counts and round trip times to update route tables on a router with two
or more Internet connections.  You want to avoid solutions that attempt
to replace BGP. For the fewest headaches, stick with something that gets
the job done by working with IPv4 routing tables.  I used to do this
using cable and DSL, some simple perl, some bash and it worked well for me.

a 48 port PoE switch will be a power hog, but there is also a version
which consumes only 11w
