Position will be located in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
MCNC seeks a senior IT professional to oversee the development and
implementation of new managed services to be delivered over the North
Carolina Research and Education Network (NCREN), with a focus on
utilizing cloud computing technology as a delivery platform. This
position reports to the Director of Advanced Services Development.
Key Responsibilities/Duties
* Oversee the planning and development of a scalable, virtualized
data center infrastructure
* Develop partnerships with external cloud computing vendors,
provide technical evaluation of their services, negotiate pricing and
contract terms
* Develop a technical strategy for delivering new cloud
computing-based services to NCREN clients utilizing both internal and
external resources, as needed
* Work directly with NCREN clients to develop specific managed
services based on user requirements
* Develop business, financial and budget plans for cloud
computing-based service development
* Work in a cross-functional team environment with appropriate
personnel from Engineering, Operations, Community Support and the MCNC
leadership team
* Create and execute work plans and revise as appropriate to meet
changing needs and requirements
* Follow established process guidelines for new service
development, and suggest improvements as appropriate
* Provide appropriate reporting and documentation for all project work
Position Requirements
* Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related
discipline
* Ten years of experience in IT engineering, operations and/or
service development
* Experience in a service provider environment strongly preferred
* Technical mastery of server virtualization, storage, data center
networking and application delivery
* Strong project management skills, and business-related experience
in the areas of financial modeling, scheduling and budgeting
* Excellent verbal and written communication
* Ability to work effectively in a cooperative, customer-focused
team environment
