I'm currently evaluating a HP G71  Notebook PC ($600 with Win7 at Sams Club)

 Running Ubuntu 9.10 off CDROM shows a problem with on-board sound, which
has apparently been fixed (but not on the CD).

If you like, I'll keep you posted on other things I find.
