To those of you who are interested in tech startups:
We've started a new Meetup group[1] in the RTP area, in the
spirit of the "Hackers & Founders"[2] or "Open Coffee Club"[3]
groups that exist in many cities; or the "Startup Drinks" events that are
sometimes held[4].
Simply put, it's a meetup for anybody who is interested in founding,
joining, funding, or
otherwise being involved in a tech startup, or who wants to mingle with
other such folks. If you're a
regular reader of Hackers News[5] or similar sites, this is probably right
up your alley.
The format will probably be a weekly meetup, which will be very
(completely?) informal, at
a set venue (or "venues" if there is enough interest) somewhere in the
Triangle. Basically the idea is, anybody who wants to mingle
with "hackers and founders" should be able to say "I know if I show up at
$VENUE
on $DAY_OF_WEEK at $SOME_TIME" there will be hackers and founders there to
mingle with.
No name tags, no expectations, just a chance to meet, talk ideas, demo your
ideas, network, look
for co-founders, partners, drink, eat, etc.
If there is demand, and availability of venues, speakers, etc, it's also
possible that we might throw
in a semi-regular meeting which is a little more structured, and based
around having a guest
speaker or some sort of presentation. A "pitch night" to practice pitching
to others and working
on the "elevator speech", etc. could also be in the cards. But really,
it'll be whatever the group
wants it to be. So join and help drive things!
