It's a simple script that uses the hardlink capabilities of
rsync and your filesystem to do automatic "data de-duplication".
That means that recent changes will be written as new files,
but things that have not changed will be hard links to the
older files. If you look in the directories for any given
backup, you'll see ALL of the files, not just the ones that
were incrementally backed up during that run. But there is
no penalty for storing the same file in every backup directory...
each copy is the SAME FILE on the disk.
This is a little bit different than what you're asking for...
but I think it is both SIMPLE and COMPREHENSIVE enough to
warrant a close look.
