Hi there,
The Australian government has begun rolling out a National Broadband
Network (NBN) [1] that treats the network as a utility.
The NBN wholesales fiber to the home (FTTH) connections to commercial
ISP's who then sign up and deal with individual customers. This
provides a "level playing field" for ISPs and other providers.
Australia's population is 22M, area of 2.9M sq miles, population
density 2.8 per sq mile
North Carlina's population is 9.5M, area of 54K sq miles, population
density 165 per sq mile
It is disturbing that the North Carolina State government seems to be
heading in the opposite direction with H.129, entrenching the existing
monopoly even further.
