Actually, I thought that discussion was rather good, and not a flamewar.
It wasn't entirely genuinely researched by all parties, but this stuff
has to be hashed out, and sooner or later (like it or not) we geeks *do*
intersect with the rest of society, politics, and political decisions.
The internet is a great example of a current topic that /must/ be
discussed, and frankly needs our (collective geek) input.
In fact, I wouldn't mind a discussion-based meeting (or more) on the
topic, rather than a straight up lecture like we've been having. I
believe that the internet, as a proxy and medium for free and
unregulated speech, is incredibly important, and the outcome of bills
like this will have lasting and repercussions for the future of a free
society. The more I know, whether or not I'm in any particular camp, is
a good thing.
Cheers,
Kevin
