[TriLUG] New WiFi router needed: TriLUG opinions wanted

Just to add some color to the white walls of Cisco/Linksys:

I have three WRT54gs. I have found them all to be slightly flaky. They are
all different revisions.

One runs openWRT and bridges two physically separate wired networks in my
apartment so that I don't have to run long cables across the floor. It runs
fairly reliably but occasionally needs a power-cycle for I don't know what.
I'd say dirty power, but I haven't noticed any correlation with the recent
spate of electrical storms.

The other two, configured identically, run stock firmware and get
alternating usage as each one randomly decides to quit every few months.
The bonus here is that they've got a nicely stackable design, so when one
quits, I just move the cables to the other one and carry on till it quits.
These are on an aging BackUPS (with a recently-replaced battery). When they
quit, it's something that isn't fixed by a quick power-cycle (which is why I
have two there in the first place...the first one quit, so I bought a new
one...then it quit and I tried the old one and hey, it works!...)

I have also heard stories of set-and-forget installations that've run for
years. Clearly a YMMV situation.

I am a big fan of Linksys as well. My WRT54G (v5 with limited RAM), has been
working for 5 years now without a hitch. I put DD-WRT on it to get some nice
features. Since DD-WRT more or less has support for IPv6 and even the HE
tunnels, I'd recommend it. Here is their router support database:
