Well, you could use the phone and let their tech people worry with why you
couldn't chat with them in their preferred way. They probably won't come up
with an answer, but if enough did it perhaps they would eventually stop some
of the proprietary stuff. But I wouldn't hold my breath.
I know I was pleasantly surprised with something similar when we lived in a
Charter Cable area. The tech said, "Oh. You really don't need to run
Charter Cable setup program. It is really just a ..." He wasn't a Linux
user, but very reasonable and helpful. Sometimes one is pleasantly
surprised!
