Thinkpad all the way! They are good solid laptops with good Linux 
support. There are lots of forums dedicated to running Linux on a 
thinkpad for all the little nits, etc (like http://www.thinkwiki.org).

You can usually get very good deals if you're willing to wait for 
another Lenovo WH sale.
